Last Chance to Make Your Voice Heard
On Friday, the California Redistricting Commission voted upon its near final political maps Now, there is a 14-day public viewing period before they vote to finalize the maps. During this time, the public has one last time to provide any comments to the commission before Aug. 15. Your input has had an impact on the district maps changing to favor Asian Americans. Please consider sending an email to the commission urging them to connect West San Gabriel Valley with East San Gabriel Valley for Senate District 22 – LACVN. A sample email is at the end of this email. Update on latest district maps CAUSE is pleased that the 49th Assembly District, which includes Monterey Park and Alhambra, incorporates communities that make up an Assembly District that will be approximately 53% Asian Americans. This will mark the first time that a seat has been carved out for an Asian American. The corresponding Senate seat, however, still falls short. CAUSE has contended, and will continue to contend, that this senate seat should include Walnut, Diamond Bar, Hacienda Heights, and Rowland Heights. These communities share much in common with the West San Gabriel Valley — particularly having one of the highest Asian immigrant concentrations — and should be connected so that the needs and concerns of the residents of these communities can be addressed by a legislator who shares many of their concerns. Lastly, the congressional seat incorporates many Asian American communities. It too can be altered to better include more Asian American communities, but the district as drawn is sufficient. However, given that CAUSE wants to avoid diluting its voice, CAUSE has chosen to focus its efforts solely on the senate district. We urge you to copy and past the below text to the commission at Thank you for your time and efforts.

Sample Email   Dear Commission Members and Staff: For Senate District 22 – LACVN, we urge you to connect the West San Gabriel Valley — Monterey Park, Alhambra, and Rosemead — with East San Gabriel Valley — Walnut, Diamond Bar, Hacienda Heights, and Rowland Heights. Connecting these two regions is best for these communities because these communities share similar characteristics: income levels, education levels, language usage, and race. Of particular importance is that these two regions have one of the highest concentrations of Asian immigrants. As Asian immigrants, they share similar challenges, concerns, and needs, such as language barriers and access to government services; these residents would benefit from residing in the same Senate District so that their voice will be magnified, leading to their needs and priorities more likely to be addressed by an elected official who shares a similar background, history, and culture. Please unite these two areas together. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Your Name
