This election will not be held citywide. It will only be held in precincts in the 71st House of Delegates district. The polling place listing under the “Voter at the Polls” tab shows which precincts are in the 71st House of Delegates district. The polls for precincts involved in this election will be open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Click here view the Writ ordering this special election. The candidate filing deadline for this election is Tuesday, January 24, 2017. Please see http://www.elections.virginia.gov. for candidate filing information. The deadline to register to vote in this election is Tuesday, January 31, 2017. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot through the mail is also January 31, 2017. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot in person (with limited exceptions) is Saturday, February 4, 2017. The Office of the General Registrar will be open from 9 AM to 5 PM on that Saturday. PHOTO ID REQUIREMENT Photo ID is now required to vote at your polling place or in person absentee voting. Acceptable forms of photo ID include: valid Virginia Driver’s license; DMV issued photo ID; valid United States passport; valid employee photo ID; other government issued photo ID; and, valid Virginia college or university student photo ID. If you do not have an acceptable form of photo ID, you may get a free one for voting purposes at any local Virginia voter registration office.
