PHILADELPHIA, May 9, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Pete Matthews, President of AFSCME District Council 33, today announced at a news conference that the Executive Board of his Union has endorsed Lawrence Krasner for District Attorney and Alan Butkovitz for re-election as City Controller. Both Krasner and Butkovitz attended the news conference at the Union’s headquarters at 30th and Walnut Streets. Matthews noted that District Council 33’s endorsement of Krasner was grounded in a need for a District Attorney who would “treat all Philadelphians fairly as he enforces the law.” “We are taking this Primary Election very seriously and that is why we carefully reviewed each candidate’s position on the issues that impact District Council 33 members,” said Matthews. “The jobs our members perform put them in direct contact with thousands of Philadelphia citizens on a daily basis and they know the needs of the communities they service.” Matthews said District Council 33 members would be best served by Lawrence Krasner as District Attorney. “Our members made it clear that they want a District Attorney who is fair, honest and able to understand the needs of our communities,” said Matthews. “We believe that Lawrence Krasner is that person.” District Council 33’s endorsement of Alan Butkovitz for re-election as City Controller was based on years of experience working with him to settle fair contracts with the City. “Alan Butkovitz has always treated District Council 33 members fairly and his ability to monitor the City’s finances has proven to be extremely valuable for many years,” said Matthews. “We believe that Alan Butkovitz deserves to be re-elected and we will work towards that end next week.” “We will have phone banks doing GOTV calls and members on the street pulling out voters,” said Matthews. “Through that effort we are confident that we can reach between 50 and 60 thousand voters on election day.” SOURCE AFSCME District Council 33]]>
