FYI, I forward to you about a candidates forum for Northern Virginia Districts (8, 10, 11) For Immediate Release September 7th, 2010 Contact: Genie Nguyên 703-593-7182 Voice of Vietnamese Americans Joins Northern Virginia Asian Pacific Americans To Host Candidates Forum on Citizenship Day in Fairfax Fairfax, Virginia: On September 17th, Citizenship Day, Voice of Vietnamese Americans joins Asian Pacific Americans of Northern VA in hosting a Candidates Forum to have dialogue with their Congressional Candidates of Districts 08, 10, 11. The Candidates invited are Congressmen Jim Moran (D), Frank Wolf (R), Gerry Connolly (D), and candidates Patrick Murray (R), Jeff Barnett (D), and Keith Fimian (R). The Candidates Forum will be hosted right at the heart of Fairfax, at Northern Virginia Community College, Ernst Cultural Center, 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, VA 22003, from 07:00pm – 09:00pm. Asian Americans in 2010 are paying closer attention than ever before to the issues and politicians affecting their daily lives, preparing to vote in high numbers and influence the November midterm elections. In the United States, nearly 15% of all small businesses are owned by Asian Americans, who make up more than 11% of the population in Northern Virginia and 18% of Fairfax County. The Asian American Candidates Forum expects approximately 200 leaders and citizens to participate in an extensive, moderated Question & Answer discussion where congressmen, candidates, and citizens will engage in a real conversation about the issues facing Northern Virginia and America in 2010. Among topics expected to be raised are employments, education, health care, capital accessibility for small business, transportation, with a particular focus on racial profiling due to recent concerns in the new immigration law. The forum is open to the public and is totally free of charge. VVA encourages all Vietnamese American constituents of VA Congressional Districts 8, 10, 11 to attend. Light refreshment will be served.
