Momentum builds for bi-partisan, state-based plan to elect the President by national popular voteHARTFORD, CONN. (PRWEB) APRIL 26, 2018 The Connecticut House of Representatives passed the National Popular Vote bill, paving the way for the “Constitution State” to become the 12th jurisdiction to pass the proposal. If the Senate takes action and the Governor signs the bill, Connecticut’s seven electoral votes will bring the compact’s total to 172 – 63 percent of the 270 electoral votes required for the compact to take effect. “This is an important step forward in Connecticut and in our nationwide movement to ensure a national popular vote for president,” said Dr. John Koza, Chairman of National Popular Vote. “Connecticut provides crucial momentum. We will not rest until every voter, in every state, is politically relevant in every presidential election.” The National Popular Vote interstate compact would not take effect until enacted by states possessing a majority of the electoral votes – that is, enough to elect a President (270 of 538). Under the compact, the winner would be the candidate who received the most popular votes from all 50 states (and DC) on Election Day.
