ALEXANDRIA, VA. (PRWEB) JULY 09, 2018 The Military Family Initiative (MMFI), a charitable foundation of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), will launch a voter education outreach campaign in August to provide active duty military families with educational resources on absentee voting. This is the third phase in the MOAA foundation’s Military Voter Education Project (MVEP). The project is designed to encourage active-duty military families to take advantage of resources available to them, such as the Federal Voting Assistance Program (not affiliated with this project). MOAA has also provided a website and downloadable absentee voting guide to improve active-duty military families’ knowledge of the absentee voting process. This phase of the project will be an enhanced expansion of the first phase, an outreach campaign in 2016. This phase will include refined messaging and more narrowly defined demographic targeting of active-duty voters, based on the results of a phase two survey that will be released this summer. The campaign will offer active-duty voters an updated online experience and invite them to take a short post-election survey about their voting experience. With this short survey, MMFI hopes to demonstrate a measurable correlation between outreach efforts and voter participation. “The foundation’s mission is to offer programs and services, both nationally and through MOAA councils and chapters, to ensure our nation’s military families enjoy a quality of life they’ve earned through their service,” said Amanda Bainton, executive director of the MMFI. “We believe this voter education campaign is important because it provides valuable information to military absentee voters and empowers military families to take an active role in shaping their future as American citizens.” The voter outreach campaign is funded through a grant from the Democracy Fund, a bipartisan nonprofit organization supporting citizen engagement in democracy. This is the third grant the MOAA foundation has received from the Democracy Fund. Previous grants were used to support the first and second phases of the project, known as MVEP I and MVEP II. “With over 350,000 members, MOAA’s highly respected voice has helped military family members understand the absentee voting process and their voting rights as citizens, and we look forward to the launch of this year’s outreach campaign,” said Lindsay Daniels, associate director for elections at Democracy Fund. “Democracy Fund is committed to streamlining the path to the ballot box for all eligible voters,” Daniels added.
